Soft-sand beach breaks, mellow waves for beginners, clean sets for intermediates. Phi has put hundreds of people on their feet in their very first session — from kids to riders in their sixties.
The beach breaks of Mũi Né are among the most forgiving spots in Vietnam to learn how to surf. Average wave height 0.8–1.5 metres, soft sand bottom, no rocks. Warm water year-round — no wetsuit needed. The main surf season runs from October to March, overlapping with the kite season.
Phi starts beginners on a soft-top longboard — stable, safe, easy to stand up on. When you're ready, he moves you onto a hard shortboard or a mid-length depending on the style you want to chase.
What sets Phi apart as a surf coach: he was surfing long before kites arrived in Mũi Né. He knows precisely which wave is "yours" — the single most important call a student can't make alone. He pushes your board on your first sets, then lets go when you're ready.
No standard curriculum. Phi reads every set and every student, picking the right moment to push you up a level.
Zero experience to your first take-off on a soft-top. Most students ride their first wave in the opening session — something Phi has done with hundreds of riders.
Standing up but riding straight? Phi teaches you to read the peak, trim along the line, and carve your first bottom turn.
Once you're linking turns, Phi refines your style — top turn, cutback, re-entry, and video analysis to find your own line.
Mũi Né isn't a world-class surf spot — and that's exactly the point. Mellow waves, sand bottom, uncrowded. Ideal conditions to learn and progress quickly.
